Privacy Compliant & Secured Data Processing on SmartHub

Privacy and secure data processing play a key role in digital advertising, and SmartHub, as the pioneer in PaaS white label ad exchange, has already solved this challenge for its customers.

Choosing SmartHub means getting a marketplace fully compliant with the latest international privacy regulations and data processing standards.

Data Processing Standards
and International Privacy Regulations

In the world of advertising, data is the fuel powering targeted campaigns and ensuring personalization.
However, collecting and processing it is a significant responsibility, and this is where standards
and privacy regulations come into play to ensure security and transparency.

Not complying with these standards can lead to legal challenges and fines, as well as difficulties with gaining trust and maintaining a professional reputation.
In turn, prioritizing privacy and protecting sensitive data is the way to retain customers and remain competitive.

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)

  • GDPR applies to any business working with the data of EU citizens. It aims to provide users with more control over the collection, processing, and usage of their data.
  • To be GDPR compliant, advertisers and publishers need to obtain clear consent to collect and use the data and implement security measures to protect it. GDPR also encourages businesses to collect only necessary information.

TCF 2.0 (Transparency and Consent Framework 2.0)

  • TCF 2.0 was developed by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Europe. Its goal is to enhance transparency and user control over data processing in compliance with privacy regulations like GDPR.
  • TCF is a voluntary standard applicable to publishers, consent management platforms, and vendors (demand-side platforms, supply-side platforms, etc.), even if they are not members of the IAB Europe.
  • Users can grant or deny consent to specific processing purposes (for instance, using precise geolocation), while publishers and advertisers need to provide clear information on how this data will be processed.

CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)

  • CCPA is quite similar to GDPR but applicable to a different region. It focuses solely on California residents, including those who are temporarily outside of the state.
  • Customers have the right to know what information businesses collect about them and how it is used and shared. They can also ask organizations to delete it (although some exceptions are applicable).
  • Besides, users have the right to be notified, before or at the point businesses collect the data, of the types of information they are gathering and what they may do with it.

COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act)

  • COPPA was designed to protect US children under age 13. It applies to any business working with such data, regardless of its location. COPPA aims at safeguarding digital information of children since they are often less aware of the privacy-related risks.
  • Apart from ensuring data security, buyers and publishers have to obtain parental consent (with limited exceptions) before they collect children’s information online, provide parents with access to their children’s personal data, allow parents to prevent further use and collection, etc.

Ads.txt and Sellers.json

  • Ads.txt (Authorized Digital Sellers) is a file added to the publisher's website that lists all the sellers authorized to sell their inventory.
  • Sellers.json performs as an extension of ads.txt. It is a file providing more detailed information about the parties involved in the inventory selling processes.
  • Using both ads.txt and sellers.json files is the way to prevent fraud, minimize unauthorized activities, and enhance media trading transparency. The supply-side partners work only with approved sellers, and their inventory is protected. The demand-side party has confidence in traffic quality in ad exchange.
